I should put out here, because there seems to be some mis-understanding about the veil. Things that are sacred are veiled. The veil on the woman is a symbol of the gift of creation. That she carries within her human life and it was through this method that God was brought into our world. Secondly, her hair is her crowning glory. So she covers her hair to humble herself in front of the Blessed Sacrament. So the reasons are entirely separate from the Fundamentalist perspective and have nothing to do with Equality. Men do not wear them because they do not bear children and their hair is not their crowning glory. It's very common where I am at, especially at the Latin Mass. I won't enter a church without it because I see it as a sign of thanks that I am a woman and to hide my beauty so as not to compete with the beauty of Christ. I just want to put out there why women wear them.

That is a really beautiful custom that is part of our catholic tradition with a small T and I am very glad for it not being part of Tradition that is decided by the Church. I am also glad that the Catholic Church is not a Fundamentalist religion or there are a great many things the Bible says should be followed that aren't. I really hope to one day participate in a mass that this is the custom. Even midnight mass at Mission San Luis Rey which is in Latin there is usually only a few older women that are apparently familiar with it.

Yes, always no matter what mass I attend. 1 Corinthians 11:6 tells us to. That was my deciding factor. I believe in our bible and trust it in its ENTIRETY.

When I attend the Latin mass, yes. For the normal family mass, no.

I don't wear a veil, unless I'm a visitor at another parish where it is a common practice. Then, it's out of respect for others. My Loving Father doesn't ask it of me; He welcomes me with open arms on equal terms with my brothers.

Also, if you want to take part in celebrating the Mass with reverence and venerate Our Lord, find a Catholic Church that says the traditional Latin Mass. You can follow along in English if you need to and the experience will delight and enlighten you. Peace and Blessings to all!

Dru, and others: The question is (for WOMEN) "Do you wear a veil in Mass" The question is NOT whether or not women should or should not wear a veil in Mass. Having said this, to my knowledge, there is/was nothing in or of Vatican II or any other statement presented by the Pope(s) past or present that said women should no longer cover their heads in the Presence of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. The practice of women covering their heads in His REAL Divine Presence in the Holy Eucharist at Mass, in the Catholic Church or Chapel is done out of Reverence for Jesus. All Catholic women, including those in the Religious Life who stopped covering their heads in His Presence, mistakenly did so thinking or were actually told by a mistaken Priest or Bishop that they no longer had to do so. What a travesty to see the majority of Catholic women stop this practice! The covering of a woman's head in His Presence is a beautiful traditional practice done in order to SHOW REVERENCE to Him. None of this has anything to do with women's rights or equality or any other such thing. Pure and simple. Show reverence by covering your head in Jesus Presence! It is right to venerate Our Lord, Jesus. How will you present yourself when you come face to Face with Him? My place is under God as I show my reverence for Him by placing myself under the veil.

P.S. Men take off your hats!

P.S. Everyone be QUIET inside the Church before and after Mass! If you need to chat, please go outside. Show respect for Our Lord and for those who wish to BE IN HIS PRESENCE.
