How does matching work?

After completing your match portrait, your responses are compared to the responses of opposite-gendered members who are free to marry in the Catholic Church and live within a certain radius of the location listed in your profile--250 miles for US members and 500 miles for all other members. Those who are deemed to be compatible with you based on both of your responses, whether similar in some areas or complimentary in others, will appear in your match list for review.

When reviewing your matches, their photos will be redacted until you select "reveal" to access the member's profile. After you have had a chance to review the member's profile, you can then respond either Yes, No, or Unsure to indicate your level of interest in the match. (See FAQ: What happens when I indicate interest level in a match?)

The match list does not provide a place to filter out those who do not meet specific qualities, however, if you have specific criteria in mind for your potential spouse, we welcome you to use the Saved Search feature for these purposes.

How can I find my matches?

Your matches can be found in your match list. To reach your match list:

  • Open the Inbox menu located within the blue menu bar at the top of any page
  • Select Matches
  • If you have not yet completed your match portrait, you will be prompted to do so when you access your match list for the first time.

If you do not have access to the match page and you are free to marry in the Catholic Church, please contact customer support for assistance in correcting your marital status.

Are matches mutual?

If you see a member listed as a match in your match list, the other member will see you listed in his or her match list as well.

If you both indicate interest in each other, an emotigram will appear in your inboxes letting you both know that a mutual attraction exists. If you don't receive an emotigram right away, don't worrry as the other member may not have reviewed their matches yet.

Who is included in the matching system?

Any member who is free to marry in the Catholic Church, has an active profile status , and has completed his or her match portrait  is included in the matching system.

If your marital status is currently listed in your account as divorced and you are free to marry, please contact customer support, making sure to note the date listed on your final annulment decree or letter stating that your previous marriage lacked canonical form in addition to the name of the signing official or tribunal.

What happens when I indicate interest level in a match?

When you reveal a match from your match list, you are given three options when asked, "Are You interested in this match?"--Yes, No, and Unsure

  • A response of Unsure leaves the match in your match list to respond at a later time. Notification of your chosen response will not be given to the member.
  • A response of No archives the match so you will no longer see him or her listed in your match list. Notification of your chosen response will not be given to the member.
  • A response of Yes will leave the member in your match list for easy access in the future. If the other member has also responded to indicate that they are interested in you as well, you both will receive an emotigram, however, if one member has not yet reviewed the match or has indicated either no or unsure notification will not be sent to either party.

What should I do if I don't like my matches?

If you aren't interested in a match, please select "No" where you are asked if you are interested in the member in his or her profile.

Your match list shows any member, within 250 miles for US members or 500 miles for those outside of the US, who has responded to their match portraits in ways that are compatible with your own responses.

It is important to keep in mind that your match list does not take into consideration any information from your own profile, the other member's profile, or your search criteria, but instead focuses on the areas addressed in your match portrait--Interests, Disposition, Outlook, Background, Experience, Communication Style, Emotionality, Finances, Sexuality, Values, Vision, and Traits.

If your goal is to find members based on a given set of criteria, such as age, location, appearance, or faith level, this can be done by using the Saved Search feature.

Why did I receive a same-gender match?

On occasion a new member will inadvertently select the incorrect gender when creating his or her account. If you have found someone who has selected the incorrect gender or if you feel that you may have done so yourself, please contact customer support, noting the member's name and member id number so that we can make the correction right away.

Why don't my matches photos appear until I click "Reveal"?

Before revealing a match for the first time, his or her photo will be redacted to allow you to take the time to review the member's full profile with the knowledge that they have been carefully selected based on personality traits, values, and other key areas important in successful relationships--before dismissing him or her on the basis of appearance alone.
