True Love Waits

I am Sheila May, a 35-year old lady from the Philippines. As I had been single for a long time and had not really gotten the chance to meet the right person, I decided to be a member of a Catholic Match over four years ago. At first, I was not so keen about online dating, but when I learned that my other friends have met their partners and are now happily married, I began to consider the thought that maybe I would also meet the man of my dreams on this site. After patiently waiting for the right one to come, I finally met Gary, a Catholic school teacher, last October 2007.

I was really thrilled the first time I talked to Gary online because I felt in my heart that there was this great connection between us. It has never happened to me before. I never really met anyone quite like him. We share the same Catholic faith, morals, values and beliefs, all of which are very important to me. I am just so overwhelmed to have found someone who is, in so many ways, the one I have prayed for after all these years. Thank God for technology, as we would talk through the Internet almost every day. It started with emotigrams, then emails and voice chats (for 2-3 hours). The constant communication really helped our relationship grow so beautifully.

After two weeks of chatting online, we decided to meet in person on Christmas of 2007, as we wanted to find out if we can have a formal relationship. I invited him over to Singapore as I was to celebrate the holidays with my sister and her family there. Gary came to meet me for the first time on December 16, and since then things have never been the same.

That meeting was a confirmation that indeed, we were bound to meet, fall in love and eventually get married in the near future. I am just so grateful to the Lord for leading me to the man who genuinely loves me and that I love so much. We had a great time in Singapore getting to know each other even more, and somehow it was the longest eight days of my life and the happiest Christmas ever!! When I was with him, it seemed like we had already known each other for a long time. We had many things in common–we both love sports, food, music, travel…etc. It’s just so amazing how we clicked, considering that we both come from different cultures. He got to spend time with my sister and family and some of our friends there. They were just so excited for us.

Since Gary was really serious with his intentions towards me, he decided to see me again and meet my parents last March 2008. He came to the Philippines and spent two weeks with us. I was really very happy that he got to meet my parents, who were so impressed with what a wonderful man he really is. It was good as we spent the holy week together. We went to church everyday from Holy Tuesday until Easter Sunday. I have never been with a man so devoted to the Catholic faith until he came.

It was also at that time that we really became serious with our plans for the future. In as much as we were already so in love with each other, we still didn’t want to rush into things. We have agreed that we still need more time for our relationship to grow. Gary asked me if I would like to come to work in Australia so that we can be together in one place and find out if this relationship is for marriage. At first it was hard for me to decide to leave home, and be in a new country. But what I knew was that I loved this man, and it’s always worth giving it a try.

I arrived Australia in July 2008. As we were both very strong in our morals and beliefs, we didn’t consider living together before marriage. I rented a room in his friend’s house although we make it a point to see each other everyday. Our relationship grew stronger. Gary proposed to me after three months of being here in Australia and we got married on the 7th of March 2009, at St. Patrick’s Parish. It was the most beautiful wedding one could ever wish for. All our family and friends are so happy for us, as they know that we truly deserve each other.

Congratulations for a wonderful story of love, faith and trust in Jesus.I taught school in Australia and met a wouderful Catholic woman. She did not want to live in the US. This romance between Sheila and Gary is very motivating. They show us the way to connect from one country to another. How to become close friends and later lovers and marriage. It gives me hope and some new ideas on marriage and love.
