The gossip mags have been blasting “news” over the past few months about the alleged marital issues between Demi Moore and her young husband, Ashton Kutcher. Rumors of infidelity have tainted the once admired relationship and now People magazine has reported that the couple recently traveled to Israel to repair their relationship.
The Holy Land? Really?
Kutcher Tweeted this message on Saturday night: “Sharing Love & Light while in Israel. Asking 4 the energy 2 forge bonds with our similarities & find compromise in our differences.”
Thousands of Christians make pilgrimages to the Holy Land every year, seeking clarity, peace and a stronger connection to God. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher may have these same intentions, but it’s difficult for me to imagine Hollywood filtering into a true religious experience in the place where Christianity began. A change of scene might be necessary for this celebrity couple, but the Holy Land is far from a tranquil beach-side resort or cottage in the mountains.
I hope that, no matter their intentions, Demi and Ashton find what they’re looking for. So often we search for something or someone to fix us, complete us or fulfill us, especially as singles. But exciting travel, a new love interest or a career change cannot solve the internal turmoil we may experience in life. We have to look to Him for fulfillment and work to build our relationships on His foundation. For some, it might take a trip to Israel, but for others, meaningful prayer and daily surrender can open the door to the multitude of blessings God has in store for each of us.
