Love Came Once She Stopped Looking: Kathleen & Scott

Kathleen and Scott were both discouraged with what dating had brought them.

For Kathleen, much of that discouragement came from her five years on CatholicMatch. There had been two relationships, both with men she admired, but neither of whom brought that special chemistry and “click” that comes with one’s future spouse.

She’d been on and off the site for five years, but the difficulties that came with long-distance relationships were wearing on her and she decided to let her subscription run out.

Scott had never been a CatholicMatch member and had recently ended a long-distance relationship. He took some time off from dating to allow God to move him in a different direction. That direction was to the back page of his parish bulletin, where the CatholicMatch ad was found.

Scott was skeptical of online dating when he created his profile, while Kathleen was focused on pursuing her teaching career. When he sent her a message it was two weeks before she noticed it. Though her subscription had lapsed, she still decided to check in and see if there was any activity on her profile. After seeing that a guy from the next town had messaged her, she slept on it and decided $24.95 was worth it to get a one-month subscription and see what the message had to say.

Once they exchanged e-mails, they found out that they were actually from the same parish in Eastern Pennsylvania. After a week of online messages and chatting, they decided to talk on the phone.

When the conversation went well, they decided to get together the next night. Scott took Kathleen to her favorite restaurant and they went for a walk. It only took a few weeks for their relationship to become exclusive.

“We both knew this was it for us,” Kathleen said. “We had found the spouse God set apart for us.”

After six months of dating, at her apartment one evening, Scott proposed, and she accepted. “We cannot wait to fully embrace the sacrament of marriage,” Kathleen told CatholicMatch. “We are ready to begin our life together and get each other to heaven!”

This response is for Jim 397948. You are a very handsome man, you are very active and always outdoors! I can sense that you’re involved in many activities! Maybe God wants you to be still…let the world go by while you watch and ponder. Just my two cents.

Dear Jim, I don’t agree with the comment that you are outside and too busy or need to be still. God moves in his mysterious ways and in His Timing. Don’t ever get discouraged because you are not only very handsome, you are very intelligent and a hard worker. I had my prayer answered by God putting my late husband Tom into my life when it was hectic, difficult, and under extreme pressure. He just answered my prayer to put him into my path. I was walking by the store he was working in and he walked out and I was checking out the bows on my shoes and stepped right into him. Later, he told me he didn’t know why he even went out of the store to be in my way that Sunday afternoon. I realized that God had answered my prayer request and I told him that God put you there. Be patient, Jim, and pray with conviction that your prayer will be answered by our All Knowing and Loving God. Don’t lean upon your own understanding. Just go on living your good active life.

I think it is wonderful that each of these fine adults found each other. It reminds me when in 1979 my wife left me and took my daughter. I was lost and I didn’t want my marriage to end but I knew we ere not meant to be together. So in Nov. 1979,i saw an ad in the church bullitin that mentioned a Divorcred and Separated Catholic Meeting. I joined and that is where I met my late wife Rose. In that Dec. I played Sanat and she was my elf. We became dance partners in Feb 1980 and then the rest was history. We were together for over 30 years but my Rosie died on 8/28/10. I never lost my faith in Jesus. I know if it is his will and Rose’s will , a new companion will enter my life. God closes one door and he opens another door.
