I know someone who is perfect.

It’s not me and it’s not the man I hope to marry someday. It’s Jesus Christ.

He chose to suffer humiliation, torture, and eventually death on the cross for my imperfections. His life was perfectly aligned with the will of the Father. Even though it meant unknown amounts of pain and misery, He accepted it all to give us the hope of eternity with Him.

So even though being single may be the farthest thing from what I would choose for myself, I know that God sees perfectly the plan He has for me and my future husband.

The season of Lent has been a chance to surrender more fully to His will for me. Instead of grasping for what I want, I’ve tried to instead focus on prayerfully discerning what God wants me to do with this time of singleness.

What is He trying to build in me in order to become a godly wife and mother?

I can choose to think less about my timeline and more about enjoying these moments.  I know that in the future I will be able to look back and understand why I am single now and why I went through the experiences I have had.

The journey towards marriage can be difficult sometimes, but I always have hope – hope in a perfect God.

Reflection question: Are you surrendering to God’s will?
