3 Ways To Communicate Better With A Favorites List

It might surprise some of you, but only about 30 percent of CatholicMatch members utilize a very important feature: the favorites list.

You might have noticed a yellow star next to each profile, both in the detail view and the list view. If you click on that star, it turns green, which means you added that profile to your favorites list. This is a pretty simple feature on CatholicMatch but one that is widely under-used – and rarely used in the most productive way.

1. Be a less impulsive communicator. A common mistake among online daters is not taking enough time to think about who they are contacting or what they want to say. The favorites list can really help in this area.

Rather than hastily firing off an emotigram or message as soon as you spot a profile of interest, place that person on your favorites list immediately and come back to the profile later in the day or even after a day or two.

This way you can go back and re-read the profile to ensure you want to contact this person and then reflect on what you want to say. Being a little more discriminating about whom you contact and how you contact them – rather than using the shot-gun approach – can dramatically increase your response rate and the quality of responses.

2. Keep your favorites list up to date. Many times users will place profiles on their favorites list but then never remove any. Over time the list becomes irrelevant.

After you have added a person to your list and then contact him or her, make a habit to go back and remove anyone who is no longer of interest or never responded to you. Think of your favorites list as those people you are actively interested in. Focus on communicating with those who show interest and move on from those who don’t.

3. Stay connected with friends. Almost everyone comes to CatholicMatch looking for a future spouse. And yet, over time, many subscribers find they also enjoy the friendship and community of other single Catholics. The favorites list is a great way to keep connected with those members you befriend. It is especially helpful to let you know they’re online so you can jump into the forums, send them an instant message or an emotigram to see how their day is going.

If you’ve never used your favorite list, just try clicking on the yellow star next to a profile of a guy or gal you find attractive. Then to see everyone on your list, either place your mouse over ‘Search’ in the top menu bar and select ‘Favorites’ or click on the ‘Favorites’ link on the left hand side of your home page. You’re well on your way to more thoughtful, manageable communication.

I wonder…would it be difficult for CM to notify the user if their Favorite is celebrating a birthday?
(A person’s Birthday is not not normally posted on their profile, except on their Birthday. )

I use the “Favorites List” for friends and possible interests. The profiles on it had accumulated; so, tonight, I de-cluttered the list. One reason I had not done so before is because you must actually view the person’s profile to remove him from the “Favorites List”. I didn’t want my ex-possible interest to think that I was interested.

I am a user of the favorites list. 🙂 I use it for both women and men as I have made some wonderful firends on CM.
