Why Did You Join CatholicMatch?

The “Faith, Hope & Love” blog is filled with success stories of couples who took a risk and found love despite distance, divorce and heartache. I read these stories regularly and marvel at how God can work through the complexities of life and bring two people together at the perfect time.

But how did each of us get here in the first place?

I joined CatholicMatch nearly one year ago in an attempt to better understand the online dating world for the purposes of this blog and within days, I began messaging with my boyfriend, George – the one and only person I’ve dated from this site. We discovered we share the same birthday and the same alma mater.

Each of us has a unique story of what brought us to this point, and a recent thread in the “Single Living” forum simply asks, “Why did you join CatholicMatch?” Here is a sample of the answers:

“I felt a sign to be on here, honestly. Back in early 2009, I first heard about it from a guy I was working a retreat with. At the time, he was dating a girl from here. It was maybe one and a half to two years later when I did a free membership, and I started subscribing in October. I was reading a Catholic book, and there was a little postcard size advertisement for CatholicMatch. Shortly after subscribing, I found out that a friend who had recently gotten engaged had met her fiancé on here. I had met him in 2009 while they were dating but had no idea that had met online. So it was quite a shock to find out they had met on CatholicMatch! So those were 3 signs that I should sign up/stay on here.

“A few years ago, my son asked me if we could buy a new mommy, if they didn’t cost too much (if only he knew).  I sort of liked the idea of having a special someone, not to mention the obvious lack of the feminine touch with the kids. I found CatholicMatch and signed up.”

“This was the perfect venue for me. I love meeting new people. It was a challenge of a personal nature because I never considered online dating before. Because my faith has always come first, I thought here would be a good place to start.”

“I live in a small town in the south. There are very few single women my age at my church. I decided I was too isolated and needed to become more available.”

So CatholicMatchers, whether it was out of convenience, hope for a faith-filled marriage or a desire to develop friendships with other single Catholics, share your story of how you first joined CatholicMatch!

I joined CatholicMatch as a friend recommended this site to me. I joined because I wanted to meet my partner in life who would lead us both through marriage and prayer and fun towards our Heavenly home. This site gave me an insight not only to the Catholic faith but also gave me a chance to meet other Catholics. I have been on this site since 2004 and have made good friends. Some of them are married to their other halves who they met on this site. I have met a few of the members when they have visited the UK. There have been times when I was a non-paying member but have renewed my subscription. I trust that the Lord will direct me and the person He has in mind for me towards each other. I put my trust in Him implicitly.

I joined because it’s very difficult to find someone out there in the world and I liked the idea of joining a dating service specific to Catholics, my own faith. To see what were the chances of finding “Mr. Wonderful” for the second time.

I first joined in 2004, my son was at that age where it would soon be time to allow him to have some activities that did not include me and I was afraid I might be lonely after he graduated college.

I came back this spring after a year if major changes in my life, my son passed away May 13, 2011 and someone I thought was special to me parted ways with me At Easter. When I received the email offering a discounted rate I came back not really knowing what to expect. But I have found that by sharing my story in the forums I find hope that sharing my story might help others. And I have been welcomed back with open arms.

Oh yeah, and I hoped to find a husband. Maybe I can make new friends along the way.

I joined because I asked my mom what she thought about Eharmony. She suggested Catholicmatch. I told her you can “filter” out people on Eharmony, but I decided to try this site. I am really glad I did because it has given me insight into the Catholic Church, other people’s view points, and other people’s lives.

Does anyone know what the name Joshua really means? – I do. : )

I joined because I was told about this site by a priest in the confessional after I mentioned that I was about to go onto christian singles. He told me that he’d recently married a couple who had met on this site. I’m here because I realized that the reason I’ve had failures in the past at relationships is because I’ve not had Christ at the center of my life during the dating process.

I joined to see if I could find a man that would share the same values as me. So many times I meet a guy that seems to be a good guy, but is not catholic. I seem to find the ones that are christian, but dont go to church or the classic case of not religious at all looking at me weird because I attend mass every Sunday. I live in a big enough city where there should be some men out there close to my age that are religious as a I am, but they all seem to want the same thing that I am not willing to give them until I have a ring on my finger. I signed up for cm.com for six months. I have NOT had ONE response to ANY of my emails. I realize that guys have certain things that they look for, but are ALL that PICKY? Am I just that ugly and fat that no guy wants me. I realize I am being negative, but I am very frustrated since its been 5 months since I have been on here and no date and no boyfriend. I have been praying to God a lot lately to help me become a better person to be more attractive to a guy so that I can hopefully get married and have children one day before I am 80 years old. lol.

I miss being married – sharing days and nights – learning – caring – knowing that God has blessed my union – not having to date is why marriage is so great! Being with another Catholic who talks about God is the most amazing life. Amen

I think Jim is funny too. What I did not realize was this process actually takes time and, since so much time has already flown by, I was surprised to discover that God wanted me to rely on Him. However, I am still trying to do my part and hence, I joined Catholic Match figuring this was
a good way to get the proverbial show on the road! 🙂
