Are you itching to move forward in your healing process, but maybe are feeling kind of stuck? This is a common problem with people who have experienced a devastating change in their lives, but definitely one that can be overcome.
Begin by spending some time in Adoration and reflecting on what might be holding you back… do you indulge in any behavior that might be a roadblock to healing (angry encounters with your ex-spouse, working too much or doing anything in excess, being involved in another intimate relationship, reliving the bad memories over and over, etc.)? Try to identify whatever it is that may be preventing you from moving forward. Then, determine a practical way to overcome that obstacle, for instance, if your encounters with your ex-spouse are heated and volatile, make the decision that you will not partake in that kind of behavior.
Resolve to remain calm and collected when you speak to each other or find a different mode of communication. If you are in a relationship without having a decree of nullity, get out of it. If you are reliving memories and it’s been longer than one year since your divorce, say a quick prayer when the flashbacks happen and ask for the graces of detachment and healing. Those are some examples, but make the choice to help yourself, and God will bless you for it.
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
