Whether you are kneeling down to pray, trying to forgive someone who’s hurt you, running late and trying to get to mass on time, or just trying to live a basic, good Christian life, the Devil is there to distract you and trip you up because he does not want you to succeed.
When Jesus knelt in the Garden of Gethsemane, sweating blood and in total distress, the Evil One was there doing his best to convince Christ that He couldn’t save humanity… it was just too heavy a burden to carry; no man could make this sacrifice. He tried to convince Jesus that He was a failure… His own people had rejected Him and handed Him over to be crucified. It’s Lucifer’s job to create doubt, and if you are trying to do what’s right, He will be there, whispering in your ear.
But recognize the great gift you have been given in that God’s grace is your armor against evil!
By virtue of your baptism, you have the graces to fight the good fight and God will never allow you to be tempted beyond your strength. He will always give you a way out of your struggle.
So when you kneel down to pray and the kids come bursting through the door to interrupt, or when you are trying to find forgiveness for someone and the painful memories keep playing in your head like a reruns of a TV show; when you are running late for mass and you feel discouraged to the point that you don’t want to go, remember these two important things… the devil is always whispering lies into your ear so you will fail, and God is always showering you with graces and strength so you can succeed. The choice is yours. But fear not, for “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. – 1 John 4: 4
