It Took 7 Years To Find Him, But He Was Worth the Wait

On and off for seven years, Allison, 31, had been a member of CatholicMatch. Because of some great jobs like being a missionary to homeless pregnant women and later working for a prominent Catholic college, she had moved often and had lived overseas. Not putting down any roots made it a lot more difficult for her to find a spouse.

When Allison took a job as the executive director of a home for homeless pregnant women near Indianapolis, Indiana, she decided it was time to give CatholicMatch another shot. She had been off the site for about a year and a half when she rejoined. She prayed, “Okay, Lord, I feel like this is a place you could have me for awhile, so I am going to try to find someone local.”

“CatholicMatch was the only way I knew that I could find good men, and it made me feel good that my church advertised it.”

On the day she signed up for a full membership, she saw Brandon’s profile and beamed him a smile. She liked that in his profile, he talked about his journey to recently becoming Catholic. “I’m passionately Catholic and his profile clued me in that he was too—he was a 7 out of 7. I also liked that he was more traditional liturgically. Plus, from his profile photo, I could see that he had a great smile and beautiful blue eyes. He’s a bigger guy—kind of like a big teddy bear. I thought I could get lost in those arms!”

Three weeks later, she opened her front door to meet Brandon, 37, for the first time. “I remember seeing this jovial person with a big smile on his face and luminous blue eyes. I instantly felt safe with him—that’s a big deal for me.”

Brandon, who works in management for utility company, said that after texting and talking on the phone, “I felt like I was picking up someone I’d known longer than I had.”

The two went out for Italian food, and they closed the restaurant. Allison recalls, “He looked at me and said, ‘I really don’t want this date to end.’ I said, ‘Me neither; I am having such a good time.’” In two days, Allison would be traveling to Italy to lead a pilgrimage. Brandon called her the day after their date and said, “I don’t want to wait until you get back. Can I take you out again?”

EP Paolini.SeitzExactly six months later, in an Eucharistic chapel, Brandon gave Allison flowers and got down on bended knee and said to a surprised Allison, “In front of Christ, I want to ask you if you will continue turning corners with me the rest of my life. I love you. Will you marry me?”

Brandon explains, “One of the things that surfaced during our courtship was the idea that we were not afraid to, ‘turn the next corner’ with each other.”

On November 1, 2014, on the Feast of All Saints, Brandon and Allison will turn a major corner! They’ll be married at St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy in Buffalo, NY—in the presence of 300 family and friends. “It is a beautiful old Polish Church and I dreamed of getting married there for much of my life,” says Allison.

Since it took so long to find one another, Allison and Brandon say their love story is a story of hope. It’s also an example of God’s timing is not always our timing. Allison says, “Brandon told me, ‘I had to become Catholic in order to find you.’”

Ironically, on Easter Sunday 2013 when Brandon was entering the Catholic Church, Allison was on on a job interview in Lourdes, France. “I was planning on taking this job and something happened where I did a 180. Brandon had to become Catholic and I had to move to Indiana in order for us to meet.”

It has been almost 7 years since my husband passed away, and almost 6 years since I joined CM. I believe that it is God’s will for me to marry again. My heart and soul are ready for marriage. I am ready to meet my best friend. Although I don’t know who this person is, I truly miss him.
