I lost my wife to breast cancer in March of 2009 after 34+ years of marriage, so I am a widower. I am a polish kid that comes from the south side of Chicago.I went to St. Michael grade school on 83rd and South Shore Drive. Like many of my male peers, I ended up in Vietnam. I managed to survive that experience and I am alive and well living in Batavia, IL. I am a retired telecom engineer and a hopeless geek with a capital G. I have a son who is an processor engineer with Apple Computer in Austin TX.. He presently has 10 microprocessors that he designed floating some where in space from his work in the Physics department at the University of Iowa. My late wife and I were guardians to my nephew Micheal. He is the son of my late sister Nancy. He is presently a software engineer working at the Cerner Corp. in Kansas city, Kansas. He is an up and coming shining star. I am equally proud of him. I like to grow my beard longer during the Christmas season. It is amazing what happens when I look down on a child acting badly in a store and say one magic word "naughty". I have great neighbors and I always make an effort to stop and chat with them every chance I get. I like to watch cooking shows and listen to music. I am adventurous, I like to try new things. I also like to garden. I plant a vegetable garden every year and end up giving away a fair portion of my crop. I have also learned how to bake some kick butt artisan bread. When I was in the Army I held the highest security clearance one could hold. That coupled with the fact that I am engineer, makes me painfully honest at times. So don't ask me a question that you do not want answered honestly.

Ok Seriously...people can say whatever they want here...and truthfully, don't you have get to know the person before you believe what they say?! Now for the "tamed down "50 Shades of Gray" response. ....I enjoy long walks on the beach, romance, and sharing a glass of wine under the moonlight; I appreciate throwing starfish back to the depths of the sea, and making a wish with the one I love; looking for a solid christian woman, who has honesty, loyalty, and family as her values; a person who enjoys life; looking to enjoy sharing time together, but open to the possibility of a long term, solid relationship. TRUTHFULLY...I ride a Harley, I'm a self-employed engineer, yes- I am a romantic, I enjoy travel; and family & Loyalty are priorities. But please... don't accept my word for it. Find out on your own, and then we can both judge if we enjoy each others company:)

My Catholic faith is extremely important to me. I strive to live daily according to the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. One of the most beautiful experiences was when I was received into the Church. My parents were very influential in my life as well as the various priests and parishioners in my parish. Most important is our Lord and His Blessed Mother, Mary. In my leisure time, I enjoy reading, spending time in Adoration and spending time with friends.

I am passionate about so many things. First and foremost, my two ultimate loves are my family and my faith. I am the oldest of nine children, and my favorite thing to do in the world is to read and tell stories to Joseph, my youngest sibling and my god-son. I love reading aloud to my brothers, sisters, and parents from the stories I write. If I lost everything in this world that was precious to me, still I would not be alone, for my greatest love can not be ripped from my side. My greatest love has always been beside me, strengthening me, and even if I were ultimately and inconsolably miserable on this earth, I should be happy in the promise of his company for eternity. I awaken every day with a prayer to Christ that I will love him better at every moment, and that he will use everything that I am for his own ends. I love Writing -- well, I love stories, and writing is my favorite medium for telling them. I like a quiet evening with a movie or game, but with some occasional craziness thrown into life to make it more interesting. If I had the option between going out for a large party or staying in with a few, intimate friends, I would choose the latter. I always go for tea over coffee, for beer over wine, and wine over a margarita. I will do an occasional hard drink: my favorite so far is Tequila. I love all colors except the weird reddish-orangey one, but my favorite is purple. I have yet to find a category of book (unless it is a self-help book) that I don't like. I can get completely lost in anything from Plato to Dickens, from Tennyson to Grimm. I mostly live at the library. I am fiercely loyal and caring with my family and friends.

I enjoy hiking especially on a beautiful day and I am definitely a happy, positive person who believes in kindness, love, hope, faith, and I try to be as joyful as I can be. I would love to have a companion and eventual romantic partner who enjoys the outdoors too!!! I enjoy reading, current events, music, art, classic movies, gardening, and a good cup of coffee or hot chocolate!!!

I attend the opera every season, but movies and plays are enjoyable also. My profession was in library work and computers. Technology mixed with books are one of my interests. Visiting my grandchildren and their parents are amongst my friends. My grandson lives with me while he is in college. I am a starter. I started an interdenominational prayer group while teaching in the public schools as well as a group after retirement. I also organized and began a book club that meets bimonthly. I was an organizer and leader of a support group at my parish for victims of domestic violence. Gardening and dining with friends are also interests of mine. I have traveled to Africa, England, Western Europe, excluding France, the Panama Canal and Mexico as well as many touristy sights in the USA. I'm planning a trip to Scotland in early summer and a Fall trip to New York. Physical activities were a passion of mine but now I watch sports, especially baseball.
