My major is physics. I intend to become a professor of physics at some point, and I several summers of teaching experience under my belt. If you are interested in physics, or astronomy, or chess, or church history, or cold war history, I will probably be at least somewhat interesting in conversation. I am absolutely obsessed with books as well. I especially love fantasy and science fiction works, though I do love some of the classics of gothic fiction. If given a particularly interesting textbook I will read it cover to cover and memorize it's contents in a few days time. In terms of television, I prefer stuff with story lines and complex characters, and I prefer animation to live action. Regardless, if something is well-crafted, I will typically enjoy it. The same goes for movies. My family has the strongest influence on my life. Both of my parents and both sets of grandparents highly emphasize the importance of education and ethical conduct. Pretty much all of my religious education came from my Mom, who also home-schooled me for 8 years. She had me learn the catechism inside and out, and read through a fairly large textbook on church history, so that I would have a sense of the reasons behind my beliefs. My Dad, unfortunately, was not nearly as strong in the Faith. He did, however, teach me the value of rational thought and discipline. Both sides of my family have a heavy scientific background as well, leading to my love of physics. Most importantly, am the oldest of 6, and they have taught me the value of patience and empathy, and helped me develop a love of children as well.

I take pleasure in discovering the mysteries of creation--I think this is how God led me into a career in science. My faith is important to me--I at one point discerned a vocation to religious life but now believe I am called to marriage. I like to ski, I enjoy reading in my free time, and my favorite prayer is the Rosary.

I love the Church because She is beautiful, because She is the treasury of our faith, in whom we come to know our Lord and our salvation. I am looking forward to filling out this profile (and correcting typos!) over the coming weeks. I am so impressed by the thoughtful, faithful words I've read since joining the site! You Catholic ladies make me very hopeful the future of the human race :) I was raised on a farm in Alaska. Like any child, I thought the whole world, more or less, resembled the territory within a few miles of home. That was a world of unpaved roads, the smells of fresh turned earth and dogsled teams, farmers' markets and winter nights illumined by pure bright stars. By good fortune I made my way to New England for college. Wide-eyed, a bit dumbstruck by the magnitude of it all, I began to learn of the vastness of the world. Imagine my surprise when a professor introduced himself and said in soft but assertive tones that we, his students, were Christians - whether we knew it yet or not! It got my attention, abstract and unchurched as I was at the time. I read more closely after that, as though words could be considered not just for analysis, but as the mirror of and invitation to a way of life.
