I am an optimistic person who sees the glass half full.I love animals, especially my dog, playing the drums, reading mysteries and history, martial arts and hiking/walking with the dog. When I am out, I like to see the beauty in nature, and know that anything man creates can never compare to what God has created. The characteristics that I look for in people are honesty and loyalty.

Now I have plans to visit a whole bunch of countries. I'm also a martial artist. I have a 4 year background in Kenpo Karate; and most recently I've picked up Japanese Sword.

I am interested in eventually focusing my graduate studies on International Development and education. I ultimately aspire to work at The State Department Bureau of Education & Cultural Affairs or at a university in International studies. All my educators, the excellent to the poor, have shaped me as a person and inspired me to further the importance of global competence and awareness of humanity as a whole. In my leisure time I try to work on learning languages. My primary focus is on German, Mandarin, and Spanish. I attend Mass every weekend and have grown in my faith more through college despite some rough patches.

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for." "How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been; how gloriously different are the saints." "Man is the only animal that blushes...or needs to" "Cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education" "Miracles are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know about nature" "You aspire to great things? Begin with little ones" ""Thou must be emptied of that wherewith thou art full, that thou mayest be filled with that whereof thou art empty." "If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise... ... If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings--nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son" "

If you're interested, you can read the brief write-up I have below. But I really prefer getting to know people face to face. Different aspects of people have influenced different aspects of my life. The epistles of St. Paul have given me encouragement and feelings of warmth in times of trouble: he often speaks of our union with Christ in both death and rebirth. These writings remind me to unite my suffering with that of Christ, always remembering the Life to come if I "finish the race" by the grace of God. St. Louis de Montfort, along with some other saints, present to me the idea of being a brilliant artist while being faithful to God; I have an admiration for writers and enjoy learning of their backgrounds, but often find disappointment in discovering their promiscuity and lack of Faith. St. Louis de Montfort was gifted with artistic talents (poetry, wood carving, and music) and used it for the sake of portraying the beauty of God and evangelization. Finally, I often derive inspirations of courage in fictional heroes. This may sound strange, but it is a valid point if you examine it: Spider-Man has always been a personal favorite of mine (definitely my man-crush if I had to choose one), for instance. The message of Spider-Man 2 (the film, of course) is: "Sometimes, in order to do what's right, we have to give up the thing we want the most." A very potent message to be sure, and undoubtedly relevant to a practicing Catholic in today's world. Consider another example in the character of Ebenezer Scrooge: here we find a character deeply rooted in sin and moroseness, seemingly without hope. But, by the grace of God, he repents of all his wrong-doings and focuses the rest of his life doing good. These characters, though fictional, iterate true ideals which have the potential to enlighten us in dark periods.

  • Phil, 37 from Stonington, CT

Hello, I currently work full time as a job coach-mentor with intellectually disabled clients. I am in the process of going back to school for a Master's in Pastoral Studies with a concentration in Spiritual Direction & Pastoral Studies from Holy Apostles College & Seminary in Cromwell, CT. In my leisure time, I enjoy a range of activities, which include reading, writing, running, and socializing with friends. Although, I would say my faith is the foundation of my life, as I seek out times for personal prayer with scripture, spiritual reading, eucharistic adoration, the rosary, and the Holy Mass... I try yo get to a daily Mass at least once a week in addition to Sunday Mass.
