...the faint heart never won fair lady. For bible study the other day I read Mathew 14:22-33, you know, the story where the disciples are on a boat in the middle of a storm. Suddenly, they see Jesus walking across the water. They think he's a ghost. To test to see if it is Jesus, Peter asks Jesus to allow him to walk across the water. Peter walks for a while but then falls. For this bible study we were to meditate on this reading and focus on one thing that stood out to us. There are a lot of ideas to grab onto in this one: Jesus walking on water, Peter's faith and lack thereof when he takes his eyes off he Lord, Jesus saving Peter, and Jesus' power over the storm. What did I focus on? Verse 22: "Then he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds." Why did Jesus have to MAKE them get in the boat? Did they not want to be away from him? Did they think the crowd might do something to him if they left? Maybe my imagination got the best of me, but I wondered if one of the disciples (probably Peter) asked, "How are you going to get to the other side? It's a long walk don't you know?" Then perhaps Jesus told them that he would sail his own boat across the sea. Definitely, at this point Peter would have put his are around Jesus, politely told Jesus he was crazy, and reminded him which one of them was the fisherman and who was the carpenter. I wondered about how many times in my life I reminded God that I was the expert and knew the "better" way. Maybe I should just leave things to the carpenter. I like talking about all things Catholic. Cars have always been a part of my life. I grew up at my dad's repair shop and at the racetrack. I am a diehard Nebraska Cornhusker football fan.

I find this part of the profile hard to do, here goes: I am a teacher / Coach. I teach Middle School Special Education. My family and friends are very important to me. I am loyal to a fault. I have a wicked sense of humor. I enjoy sports, have coached various sports throughout my adult life. Currently I am the H.S. Golf Coach and help with football. I play golf every chance I get. My Catholic faith has been important to me throughout my life. I'm sure like most people it has varied at different times in my life. My political views are very conservative. I vote for the candidate and what they stand for and views, not the party affiliation. I am looking for a friendship that might develop into more as the friendship develops.

Three and a half years ago, I made the decision to convert to Catholicism. I was confirmed at the Easter vigil in 2013. This decision was made over a long period of time starting with a book I read which was written by Pope John Paul II in 1995. Since then, I have spent a great deal of time discerning what God wants me to do. I concluded the Catholic church is the church founded by Jesus and that is where I belong. A year and a half ago, I began helping with an organization called Father Founded This is an organization which attempts to find the biological fathers of Amerasians. There are many people who have fathers who were in the US military during the Vietnam war. When the US pulled out of Vietnam, most of these children were left behind. Now they have grown up and many of them want to get to know their fathers. They are also Americans by birth but it is very difficult to prove. Locating their fathers can be very difficult with the limited information we have to go on, but the searches are successful occasionally and that makes it worth the effort. My interests cover a broad range. Some of the things I enjoy with my leisure time include: hunting, shooting firearms, woodworking, spending time at my property in the country, lifting weights, spending time outdoors, traveling, keeping informed of current events throughout the world, and participating in activities at my parish. Over the past several years, I have spent a great deal of time working on and enjoying the 55 acres I have in a forest located a little over an hour from where I live. It has been a difficult decision, but I have decided to sell this property and open a new restaurant. I like the idea of relocating to a new area of the country to open the new store.

One thing that I kid myself about is that I say I'm a "writer." I say that I kid myself about that because when it comes to writing a profile about myself to put on a Catholic date-site, I'm almost at a lost about what to say. Of course, I'd love to say "I'm a writer" without any irony, but then again, I'd have to actually publish something big, wouldn't I?I feel like I'm not off to a great start, let's try again, shall we? I'm 23 years old, graduated from Wabash College with an English/Education degree. I swam for my school for all 4 years, lettered, and wasn't half-bad either. I'm a high school teacher and a swim coach in Indianapolis. I love teaching and enjoy being at the small, strongly Catholic school I am currently working at.
