I'm a chemical engineer in energy and environmental research. Although I look and feel young, in my (real) younger days, I spent a lot of time studying, career, etc. but now I have a better balance. I don't have any children, but my nieces and nephews keep me busy. They make it pretty hard for me not to spoil them ... like when I hear them say "Uncle Mark" a hundred times a day and see an "Uncle Mark" Christmas stocking at their fireplace. My nephews ask when I can get married so they can have an auntie (they even put it on their Santa list) .. I guess they think meeting a special lady is like going to ToysRUs! In my spare time, I like travel, walking, outdoor activities, sports, dancing, and going to food and arts festivals, museums, movies, along with the occasional play or musical. I like trying new restaurants, and have begun experimenting a bit more with cooking.

I enjoy the outdoors, water skiing/tubing, boating, bicycling, playing golf, tennis and horseback riding. However, my greatest pleasure is being with my 21 year old daughter, watching and helping her grow spiritually, mentally, physically and socially. She is now a senior in college. One of our favorite places to go on vacation is 1000 Islands in the St. Lawrence River. My longtime friends have a cottage on one of the islands. We spend all our time relaxing on the dock, talking, canoeing, swimming, and watching the stars at night, all without any noise from traffic, except for a few passing boats. I also enjoy coaching basketball for the CYO youth league at my parish church. I also have learned a lot about life just being with these kids and especially from my daughter.

If you were to pick a character from the Bible that you are most like, who would it be? I would be happy to share mine. I have a dry sense of humor. I enjoy sports, especially football. I also enjoy walking, which includes 5 miles minimum daily at the local park. I grew up in a classic Catholic family of 8. We lost our mother at a young age, which is why my father had such a strong influence on all of us. He was devout in his faith, which certainly carried him through what were difficult times. As a result, we are all pretty strong in our faith and pretty tight knit. I enjoy reading and an occasional movie. I enjoy many types of cuisine, whether Italian, Mexican, Chinese or gold ol' Americana.
  • Scott, 38 from Pittsburgh, PA
    38, Pittsburgh, PA
Originally from Buffalo, NY, went to school in Pittsburgh (Pitt) and been living in Pittsburgh for about 16 years. I enjoy sports and play golf regularly. Played hockey and still enjoy when I can. Enjoy getting outside and being active. Go to live concerts and having fun around the city. Once someone gets to know me better, I have a good sense of humor, I enjoy helping others - charitable, passionate, spontaneous and enjoy travel. I have the faith to allow myself to be guided into a future relationship that will define the rest of my life. Past experiences have allowed my ability to grow and live a more humble and charitable life with humility. I would mention that I am an exceptional cook that can make pizza from scratch (including the dough), incredible weekend breakfast and homemade mac n cheese. Do you have to stop when something catches your eye and take a photo? I do too, photography of architecture and nature especially combos of both are my favorite.

When I took the Myers Briggs personality test recently, the conclusion reached was that I am an ENFP type (Extraverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving, or Extraverted Intuition with Introverted Feeling). This description of the ENFP type pretty much sums up my personality: "ENFPs are warm, enthusiastic people, typically very bright and full of potential. They live in the world of possibilities, and can become very passionate and excited about things. Their enthusiasm lends them the ability to inspire and motivate others, more so than we see in other types. They can talk their way in or out of anything. They love life, seeing it as a special gift, and strive to make the most out of it." These personality traits helped steer me through two very challenging careers; one as an on-air television reporter, the other as the owner of a video production company. I'm now embarking on a third career, as vice president of the beer wholesaling business in Western PA that my grandparents founded right after Prohibition ended. I'm in the final stage of a somewhat lengthy divorce, and hope to be able to have my previous marriage to a non-Catholic annulled so I can some day be married again in the church. I love to make light of things, when appropriate, as I believe in, as they say, in life you can either laugh or you can cry when things don't go right. By the way, who is the "they" that always says such pithy things? If you can answer that question, you're probably a good match for me!
  • Robert, 48 from Pittsburgh, PA

How appropriate: as I type this, Neil Young is on the stereo, singing "I'm searching for a heart of gold." My work involves music and my tastes are catholic: a thousand years of classical, opera, old-time Appalachia/American roots, Beatles, Bjork, musicals, your great-grandfather's pop music, occasionally even an active band. I've surrounded myself with books and records, history and culture, beauty and nature. I've lived all over the U.S. in my career as a professor and hope to keep exploring beautiful spots. And beautiful hearts, too. If you have one, please introduce yourself! I'm easy to get along with and curious about everything. I'm highly verbal and communicate well; I hope you do, too. If you're not far away from me, drop me a note! But I don't do long-distance relationships at all.

Hello Pittsburgh from a Midwestern pioneer. Sure, I moved her four years ago, yet still find myself directionally challenged and wanting to see what our fair city has to offer. You might even say I'm not in Kansas anymore (my childhood home state). I was born in Nebraska and now am a landlord of a farm. If you need corn or soybeans, I'm your man. I have a lot of energy and I am always up for an adventure. I enjoy the outdoors, international destinations, islands and mountains. I have quite the travel bucket list. With any luck, my passport will see a lot more wear and tear. I already have many knocked off my list, including India, South Africa, Italy, and the Philippines. Up for Vancouver? I stay active, running six miles a day. When I'm not running, you'll see me in the park with my two loving Keeshonds. One is older while the other was just welcomed into my home. I have lost many shoes and belts to the teething pup. I like to have fun - and laugh. When time permits, I visit family in Charlotte, North Carolina. So, help a friend out. Where are the good restaurants? Do people salsa dance here? How many Catholic churches are here anyway? Is the river safe to swim in? Is Shady Side overrated? Do we really have a direct to Paris? Maybe we can grab a bite and explore this town together.
