It's hard to describe oneself, I think. I'm basically a fun-loving person who works hard and plays hard. I'll try anything at least once, sometimes even twice! I love to travel, have just taken up kayaking. I like to fish and be out the cabin. I smile a lot, am usually cheerful, and get along with everyone. I can talk to anybody and am a friendly person.

I usually think before I act. I believe deeply in personal freedom and individual responsibility. I believe that actions have consequences, and people need to accept the consequences of their actions if they are to learn from their mistakes and grow. I believe that compassion plays a role to play in my life encouraging people to take care of themselves. In an emergency, of course, you're there to offer help and if someone has helped you out in the past there is no question about your loyalty. Whenever it is realistic, I am convinced people should take care of themselves. I devote adequate time to taking care of my own needs and wants because it makes me happy with my life and because that's what I truly believe every person should do. I cherish personal independence for myself and others. I like the way things are in my life. The ideas and beliefs that have served me well serve me still. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," and as far as I'm concerned, "It ain't broke." I've held on to these beliefs for a long time, and held on earnestly. Novelty and intellectual experiments and "the next new idea" hold some interest for me. I like the practical, down-to-earth ways of thinking and believing and living my life that have served me so well. We're born with the capacity to feel deeply, so it's as natural as breathing to experience a range of emotions. Fear and joy and sadness, anger and shame and disgust lie somewhere within each of us. I believe I am a person who is emotionally steady. Some days I want to hang out by myself, not answer the phone ,and make the world go away. The next day I am oot and aboot. It may be the phases of the moon, or something I ate; some days are just like that and then there are the days where everything goes right - which are to be cherished as they are few and far between. To be with others or to be alone are equally good. Sometimes I am more comfortable alone or with one or two friends, while other times I like the crowd at a parade or a fair. By the way, I don't do Twitter any more and if you find me on Facebook, it's not me - I've never done Facebook. LDR is a place I can drive to and be able to do 5 dates in a week for at least 4 weeks in a row.

I am a retired high school teacher of German language. For thirty-two years I lived and taught in Germany. I am passionate about our Catholic faith. Having just moved to Grand Rapids very recently, I am still getting settled in. I plan on attending daily Mass. I love Holy Mother Church and all her teachings. I would very much like to meet a like-minded Catholic woman who is also passionate about our faith. I am a non-smoker and have a very infrequent alcoholic drink. I have never taken an illegal drug...and am healthy...mentally, physically and spiritually. I am looking for the same in a woman.

i wish I could feed the world stop wars am compassionate about the human condition there are some exceptions to no man is infallible not even the pope why do I say this the abuse cases are terrible polarization of society could undo us all I will deny no one a meal as a former officer in the K of C with church and community awards I find myself in the woods with a terrible hardship the can I remarry in church my wife had it annulled after 25 years and married her brother in law in the church so where does that leave me ? a greek cafe owner taught me a valuable lesson in SD in 1968 be charitable sometimes with issues there are times when doctrine and no discussion can lead to a death so compassion has to be there
