Looking back, all the odds were against Peter and I ever meeting. A buddy of his signed him up for Catholic Match as a joke after the two of them attended an event on it at the local campus Neumann Center. I overheard a friend talking about it and decided to give it a try.
We spoke by email and telephone for about a month before we met--we had a date set, but we both had planned to get out of it somehow before the date came. Thank goodness we didn't.
The first date was great--the second date was the following night! I ended up having to take Peter to the ER because of a hernia. What a great way to meet the family--12:30AM in the hospital!
Well, if that didn't scare me away, nothing would. Everything was right and we just knew this was going to be forever. We said "I love you" after five weeks of dating. We got engaged after ten months, married 18 months after that, got pregnant two months later, and welcomed Michael John Neumann into our lives nine months after that.
It has all been a whirlwind, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
When I first signed up for Catholic Match, I was almost ashamed. "Am I really this desperate?", I thought. But now, I am not only proud of it, I advocate it. If you know what you want--a strong marriage to a Catholic person--why wouldn't you seek out others who want the same thing? Just be yourself, be open, and you'll find the person God intended for you.
