CatholicMatch didn’t seem to be working for either Edward or Victoria. Here he was in August 2010, a member for several years and still looking. The 32-year-old from Southern California had just been honorably discharged from the Army and was deciding what to do with his life. After several months of reflection, he made the determination that God was calling him to be single.
35-year-old Victoria had gone on several dates with CatholicMatch members, but the click just hadn’t been there. It was during Lent of ’11 that she sent Edward a message. Luckily Edward forgot to cancel his membership and was able to read the message.
Edward brought Victoria into a full life that included his beautiful golden retriever Christi.
There was no doubting the impact that Victoria had on Edward. “I knew immediately that God had brought Victoria into my life,” he recalled. “A few weeks (of messages) went by before I mustered the courage to call (her).” When he did, the connection confirmed what he believed the Holy Spirit had been telling him. The phone call lasted several hours and led quickly to a face-to-face date.
Edward was active in the Church and he was attracted to Victoria because of her own commitment to faith. The first date was appropriate—they went to Mass and then to brunch, to visit an abbey in Orange County. “From the moment I saw Victoria in church parking lot, I knew that God had brought me my future wife,” he said.
Two years after deciding God called him to be single, Edward cut the cake with Victoria.
