It was one year ago, late August of 2008. The week after my ex broke up with me (Camille), I dearly wanted a Catholic friend(s) to share my religion. I wanted someone I could find consolation in. I unintentionally found CatholicMatch.com. Being the curious woman I am, I decided to try it out.
After months of searching, believing I had read every profile within the U.S., I hadn’t met anyone I was interested in. I decided to search outside the States, not giving any credence to the thought that my match couldn’t possibly be that far away. By this time, I was doubting my match was on Catholic Match, so I was really reading them to pass the time. Amazingly enough, I clicked on Adam who WAS outside the U.S. (Canada) and once I clicked on him he couldn’t bug off ;-)
To give this story more meaning, let me say that I have a few medical conditions which prevented me from being very independent. Since I was three days old, I am told I have suffered from epilepsy. The seizures only became worse and more frequent as I got older, to the point I was being rushed to the hospital. On 1/15/03 my parents, doctors and I decided the way to go was for me to have brain surgery. I was told before the surgery that in order for it to be a success I would have to sacrifice some of my left peripheral vision in both eyes. I gladly agreed. I would later out it wasn’t "some" of my left peripheral that was now gone but “all.”
When I finally became conscious, my whole life style and world had changed for me I was much more seizure free, but not completely. Still having seizures made high school hard, but the sudden and unexpected amount of vision loss caused some traumatic stress. I would have nightmares about still being in the hospital, and I am still learning how to accept the traumatic change. I did attend college for a couple years, but was only being able to take one or two classes per semester because of the complications of the vision loss and seizures. I didn’t know the vision loss had side effects as well. I was later told that it caused short term memory loss, and I would become very direction-challenged, focusing, and taking on more than four tasks at a time was much more challenging. After the surgery my memory shot up the charts, then went WAY down cause of the vision side effect.
I am now 21 I have two part-time jobs. I am not able to drive, but ironically enough, my fiance's job requires him to do much driving. He is a class one trucker for a rental company. He says he LOVES driving!
We first started talking in March ‘08. My family and I where in the middle of moving to TX as well as I and my brother and sister where finishing the semester of college. After moving, Adam came to meet me for the first time. The first thing we did was say a rosary. He convinced my parents to continue to allow us to meet the following spring. Later, with my parents blessing he proposed on my birthday, all because of Catholic Match.
