James never thought he would join a dating service. The 57-year old widower from the Green Bay area was adamant — “I wasn’t going to put my picture on any website.”
But he also knew that if you don’t like where something is going then you need to change it. And James didn’t like where his life was going.
Joining CatholicMatch, writing a few words about himself and posting a couple pictures were steps he decided he was willing to take. Even then, he wasn’t about to take the jump and become a full-fledged member.
Once again, events had a way of changing James’ plans.
“Her name was Debbie,” he recalled fondly. “She had the most beautiful smile.” But there was more. He checked out her profile photos and realized they looked familiar. He sat across the aisle at church from her parents every Sunday and knew her brothers. It was an interesting coincidence to be sure, but James still wasn’t ready to become a full member.
“Two days later I got a message from her,” he told CatholicMatch.
Now there was no getting around the need to make a decision. James decided it was worth it to get in touch with this attractive woman who described herself as “fun, spirited and energetic” and loves to read.
Their connection has set them on a path of a relationship that they are hoping continues to grow. Debbie and James share their faith by attending chapel on a weekly basis. They do fun things together, such as working out, and Debbie has a great love of the outdoors. They’ve spent time with each others’ families.
James shared in Debbie’s hope that the path of life would lead them to a significant other with whom they could forge a strong and lasting marriage. The relationship hasn’t reached that point yet, but it’s off to a good start.
One of the big questions in meeting new people is determining which of your original principles need to be adhered to and which ones can be flexible. James wisely decided that his conviction about never putting himself online was one that could be discarded.
