Sarah joined CatholicMatch in July of 2025, and that’s when she met Miguel, a big teddy bear of a man who would restore her faith in true love.
The 33-year-old laughs, “I literally was on the site for less than five minutes. I'm not even going to lie.”

In that first message, thirty-six-year-old Miguel told Sarah that she’d caught his eye and that she possessed a lot of the qualities that he was looking for in a woman. Miguel shares, “I felt the Lord was prompting me to reach out to Sarah.”
They started talking at once, and the Michigan couple learned they had a lot in common. They lived thirty minutes from one another, Sarah’s mom worked for the same company as Miguel, and for a period of time, they attended Mass at the same parish!
“The Catholic world really is a small world,” she points out.
Waiting for the right moment...
Sarah had previously been married for six years and has two children, but she left the marriage in 2022 because of domestic abuse. In June of 2025, her church annulment was approved. That's when her sister began saying, "Hey, I think you should try CatholicMatch." However, though Sarah felt ready, she was waiting for God to give her the green light.
“I just kept hearing Jesus tell me to be still,” she recalls.
In July, Sarah decided to make a profile without paying for a subscription. “Making your profile just lets you look around...,” she explains.
While waiting to activate her membership, Sarah had been praying to God for the right man. She went to the chapel every week and prayed for specifics: for someone gentle, kind, and for someone who would welcome her children as his own. Then one Sunday morning mid-July, “I woke up, and I heard the Lord tell me, ‘Go now.’”
Sarah paid the $29.99 subscription fee with only $60 in her bank account.
Then Came a DM from Miguel!
Less than five minutes later, she saw Miguel’s message and texted her mom about him. She then looked him up on social media.
“I had to make sure he wasn’t a creeper,” she says.
That’s when Sarah discovered that she was already friends with Miguel on Facebook! “I don't know how or when that happened—It's just so weird,” she shares.
Sarah answered Miguel's message, and they began messaging back and forth. Later that day, after a lot of good conversation, Miguel asked for her phone number, and that’s when he asked her to go on a date. The couple planned to meet in six days, on a Saturday. In the meantime, they texted every day.

Miguel almost missed a chance to meet Sarah!
The first thing that Sarah and Miguel did when they met was to pray the rosary at church.
Miguel says, “Honestly, it was so comforting.”
The couple felt so relaxed with one another that they began holding hands from the moment they met. At dinner, Sarah shared with Miguel about her difficult past. And he shared how defeated he felt because he thought he would never meet someone. He had been on CatholicMatch for several months and was failing at every turn.
The day before he met Sarah online, Miguel had planned to delete his CatholicMatch account.
“I told my best friend, ‘Hey man, this thing [CatholicMatch] isn't working for me. I think I'm just going to delete it and not look back. And he said, ‘Hey man, sometimes that happens. Got to do what you got to do.’”
Miguel went on to delete his account but then noticed Sarah.
“I thought, 'wow,' I should try again. And I really felt the Lord was like, ‘Yeah, try. Go, go for it.’ And so, I did, and here we are now,” he laughs.

A proposal where they prayed their first rosary together!
Miguel made plans to propose to Sarah at St. Patrick's church where they’d said their first rosary together. He wanted to surprise Sarah, and as it turned out, a friend had invited her to a bridal shower on the day he planned to propose.
“Because the bridal shower was happening in the basement of the church, I now have a reason for her to get to the church,” he says.
As a ruse, Sarah’s friend asked to come early to help set up for the bridal shower. Then Sarah’s mom tricked her into entering the church first rather than going directly to the bridal shower.
Miguel was waiting at the altar with Sarah’s son, and she showed up with her daughter. The two of them walked down the aisle to meet Miguel.
“I told her how much she meant to me, and I asked her to marry me,” he recalls.

"And then Father Matthias, our priest at St. Pat's, came out and gave us a blessing," recalls Sarah.
Later that day, Sarah and Miguel went to his mother's home to show her the ring. To Sarah's dismay, her sisters (who she thought were out of town) and Miguel's family were all there waiting to surprise her.
Now they have an upcoming wedding!
Miguel and Sarah's wedding is slated for January 2027. They look forward to beginning their new life as husband and wife, and Miguel has embraced becoming a dad to Sarah's two young children.
