They Lived In a Small Town But Met On CatholicMatch!

In the final days before she nearly deleted her profile, Samantha offered one last prayer — and one last try.

She had grown weary of dating apps that filtered for “Catholic” but yielded dates with selective adherents. She said she was specifically seeking a relationship with a Catholic man because she knew their values and beliefs would be aligned. For that purpose, she joined CatholicMatch. “It was definitely more my speed,” she said.

Still, she was starting to feel hesitant about online dating overall and was resigned to delete her account.

One day later, Justin sent her a message.

They were eager to meet each other immediately!

They chatted online for only a few days before meeting in person.

Although Samantha was pretty shy, she was enthusiastic about the date, and his eagerness to meet in person soon. In their early conversations, she sensed he had clarity about his intentions. “I could tell he was genuinely looking for something long-term, and I felt so at ease.”

Their first date confirmed what their messages had hinted at. There were no awkward silences or forced small talk. “Usually I’m nervous on first dates, but I really wasn’t,” she said. “We didn’t have any lulls in the conversation. I left that date knowing we had something more brewing than just something casual.”

In truth, neither of them remembers a moment when things shifted from casual to serious. “We talked every day after that first date,” she said. “We just kinda went from talking to dating and didn’t skip a beat.”

They also realized they’d been close all their lives.

Then came the detail that made their story feel less like a coincidence and more like divine choreography.

They had grown up just 20 minutes apart!

When Samantha saw where Justin lived, she laughed. She had attended school there. Both their families were deeply rooted in the same small-town network.

As they compared notes, the overlap widened. They knew many of the same people. The parish Justin had attended for years was also her home church. Their paths had orbited each other for decades without actually intersecting.

“It’s weird we never met,” she said. “Just too many things to be a coincidence.”

For Samantha, the timing felt unmistakable. Like Ruth stumbling into the fields of Boaz, her “last-ditch effort” choice to download CatholicMatch changed the course of her life.  “There’s definitely something to be said about God’s timing because with one more day, I would have deleted my profile and we wouldn’t have met.”

Faith was always at the center...

From the beginning, their shared faith was the foundation of their relationship.

“He’s so genuine,” Samantha said of Justin. “He never gave me any vibes that he wasn’t here for the right reasons. He has a giver’s heart, and he’s so involved with the Church and community.”

Sharing the same beliefs removed a friction they had previously felt. “It’s certainly easier to date someone who shares your beliefs. I wouldn’t want to have a lasting relationship with someone who doesn’t share the most important parts of what makes me who I am.”

Nine months into dating, they took a pilgrimage to Mexico City to visit Our Lady of Guadalupe. This trip marked a deepening of both faith and commitment. They prayed together in a place where millions have sought intercession and clarity.

“That was a big trip for us,” Samantha said. “We both grew in our faith through that experience.”

Now, they attend Mass side by side — no longer unwittingly sitting pews apart. The quiet witness of sitting together at Mass became its own announcement in their small town. “Everyone saw us in Mass together, and honestly, I think that’s how word spread we were a couple,” she said. “It’s nice to live that out together.”

Looking ahead...

Samantha and Justin will marry on July 11, 2026, in a ceremony that will gather both families, and likely a large portion of their overlapping small-town world.

They are also hoping to have their marriage blessed by the Pope in Rome during their honeymoon.

More than the travel or celebration, they are most excited about what comes after. “Building a life together,” Samantha said. “I can see so many possibilities. We are stronger together, and I firmly believe we will help each other grow.”

For those hesitant to move from message to meeting, they offer this simple advice: “Take the leap of faith. We know it’s scary, and you’ve probably been let down a lot — we certainly were. But God’s timing will surprise you. If it’s part of His will, good things will happen.”
