Corentino came to CatholicMatch looking for something to more. Getting dates wasn’t a problem for the 42-year-old military man, but he wanted someone that he could build a relationship around shared values and the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church.
He was able to develop quick communication with other members on the site, although not necessarily the relationship he was looking for. A nightly check of his messages usually brought new activity, but the one relationship he’d pursued with someone relatively local to his Milwaukee home wasn’t panning out.
“It was taking too long and dragging out,” he said candidly.
As things were working themselves out, he reached out to Maria. The 38-year-old from California might have been across the country, but the message itself was harmless enough. She was from the Philippines, and Corentino had spent time stationed there. “I wrote her a message in Tagalag, one of the dialects of the Philippines,” he told CatholicMatch. “She started talking right back and I had to say ‘slow down, I don’t know it that well.’” They each got a laugh out of it, but common ground around the time spent in Manila drew them together and kept them corresponding.
