Gus and Maria had each gone through long and difficult periods of struggle over many years in the hopes of finding the right person to share their life.
Maria, 37-years-old and from Mexico had a 10-year-old son who hadn’t known a father since the age of one. She was looking for someone who shared her values, and when she saw an ad for CatholicMatch online she decided it might be a good fit. On December 7th of 2010 she made contact with Gus, a 45-year-old government consultant living in Texas.
“This is when our love story began,” Maria recalled. “I learned to use Skype, Google and every technology that would allow us to communicate with each other.” The couple spent hours having video talks through Skype at night and messaging each other by day. Monthly visits to see one another in person kept the bond between them growing.
Gus has become the father Maria's 10-year-old son Emilio never had.
