Online dating wasn’t something that was working out for Javier. Not just here on CatholicMatch, but other sites he was trying as well. “Online dating was a convenient way to meet new people, which is why I initially enjoyed it,” the 27-year-old from Austin recalled. “But over time it proved more disappointing and hopeless, as the matches showed no signs of longevity.”
Javier then did something simple. He turned to God and asked for help. He also chose to stay with CatholicMatch, believing it offered him a better chance than elsewhere. “CatholicMatch pinpointed the fact that most of the matches I was paired with wanted to have a spiritually and morally sound relationship,” he said. By contrast, he felt other venues paired him up on superficial similarities that had little bearing on what the other person would actually be like.
Javier loves soccer and has tremendous creative talents in writing stories and scripts.
It was after seeking Divine guidance, that Javier would find Dominique’s profile. She was 22-years-old and studying biotech at the University of Houston, a two and a half hour drive away. They began communicating online, which in turn went to phone calls, which became daily texts and a few Skype sessions. Eventually it led to a face-to-face date.
“Meeting first time is always a nervous ordeal for me,” Javier candidly admitted. He would cite the extensive preparation they’d had with long-distance communication as important in helping things to settle before the in-person meeting.
Javier and Dominique connected on that first date and their relationship has continued to grow ever since. Two months ago they made themselves officially a “couple,” after Javier had worked through some personal issues he wanted put to rest before entering an exclusive relationship.
Dominique is studying to be a medical researcher and is devoted to her Catholic faith.
