She (Roxanne) said she’d never try online dating. I (John) hadn’t been so successful
with it in the past. But when I saw this new, cute San Diego member, I knew I had to jump quickly and “introduce”
myself. Turns out later that many other guys felt the same way – I don’t
blame them, but I was at a disadvantage since I lived 600 miles away in San Francisco.
Well, I had to try because if it was meant to be, it wouldn’t matter, right?
After a few icebreaker messages and phone calls, we decided to meet up in March 2006 at a neutral location – California Pizza Kitchen in Huntington Beach, CA.
Being originally just minutes from our meet-up spot, I had the comfort of
family nearby and she had her best friend down the street, should we need some
post-meeting consolation. But fortunately, that wouldn’t be the case.
Inside the restaurant, I could see her waiting outside, talking on the
phone. She looked every bit like her photo, I was assured. I walked over, we
hugged, and sat down. We talked for a long time, but I admit I was pretty
quiet, to perhaps the concern of Roxanne. She amazed me with her
wonderful stories, her daily rhythm. It was fantastic.
Before I left for southern California,
I had told my friend Sarah that I was going down to meet Roxanne, so she was
quite eager to hear how it went. Though this may sound cliché, when I
returned, I told Sarah that Roxanne was “the one”. I’ve never felt such a
connection as I did during that first meeting.
The next few months flew by as we took any opportunity to visit each other
and close the physical gap between us. It all culminated just months
later in December 2006 when I proposed to Roxanne
in Laguna Beach, CA and
escorted her to Las Brisas Restaurant, where our
families were waiting to congratulate us.
The following
few months were filled with excitement as we planned a beautiful wedding in San Diego
on November 3rd, 2007. We recently celebrated our 1st
year anniversary and blessed by God, we owe a lot to CatholicMatch.com and its
faithful atmosphere, through which Roxanne and I had the opportunity for two
souls to meet and fall in love.
