A Triple Crown: Catholicism, Pro-Life Activism & Harleys

“I knew God was good but never realized He can even send me a devout Catholic who's as motorcycle-mad as I am!” Vita told CatholicMatch.

Finding a handsome man who had a common foundation in the Catholic Church, in pro-life activism and in the charismatic renewal pleasantly surprised Vita. Finding a man who possessed all those things and shared her passion for motorcycles downright stunned her.

It was 2008 when the two residents of the United Kingdom joined CatholicMatch. They were each recent emigrants, he from the United States and she from Lithuania, and CatholicMatch was a tool to keep contact with people of shared values and faith. They each met friends with whom they keep in touch with today. It was their pro-life work that  provided the impetus to their romance.

Chris sent her a brief note about his involvement with the Society For Protection of Unborn Children. It started an amiable e-mail exchange that stayed mostly on life in their new country as opposed to their homelands. Just before Vita went home to Lithuania for a week, Chris opened up and told her more about himself, and it unlocked something special in Vita.

“He was all I was looking for in a man,” she said.

It wasn’t just that he owned a Harley, a coincidence Vita found amazing in that she never missed a motorcycle show in her hometown. But she loved his artistic talent as well. When she returned they went on a date at the British Museum, and he surprised her by learning some phrases in Lithuanian.

They stayed “in the friendship zone,” as she put it, but it was obvious both felt something more.

Vita sought advice from her spiritual mentor, who was convinced that Chris was the one she’d been waiting for. She shared this with him the next time they met and they decided to take the next step and become a couple.

A few months later Chris took Vita to New York to meet his family. He took her to the Empire State Building for a visit, they went to the very top, and it was there he asked her to marry him.

“I’m not sure whose hands were shaking more, mine or his,” she told CatholicMatch.

They had a small wedding with family and friends this past August, complete with a photo session at nearby Kenilworth Castle. And as a wedding present, Chris gave his new wife a shiny new Honda Shadow. They were set to ride off into the sunset.
